Summer Fun in June

We have had a busy summer so far working on our yard, visiting family, and enjoying some festivities here in KC. So, here is the run down of what we have been up to for the last few weekends.

June 1st: Dixie and George Come Visit
We love having visitors and enjoy spending time with our parents. Courtney and I are very grateful for Dixie and George coming to visit and for all their landscaping help. We decided to add a flower bed in our backyard along with some other gardening projects and they offered to bring us flowers, compost, a dirt tiller, pots, you name it! Dixie and George are great at gardening, so we appreciated all their help!

Of course, we did manage to fit in a few fun things while they were here! We stayed up late playing cards, hit up some garage sales, went out for dinner down at the KC Power & Light District, plus Friday night they babysat so Courtney and I could have a date night!

June 7th: Courtney's Birthday Weekend
We decided to head up to Nebraska to visit my dad and Kim along with my grandparents to celebrate Court's birthday. It was a nice relaxing weekend full of tractor and gator rides which Gavin loved. Any time there is something to celebrate you have to have a party and of course a "theme party". So, for Court's birthday we did a "Mustache" theme party to celebrate. The highlight of the weekend was Courtney getting a "hunting bow" for his birthday from my dad and Kim. Courtney is super excited about learning how to bow hunt. So, what better teacher than my dad! We are looking forward to many fall trips up to the farm to break in his new bow!

June 14th: Father's Day Weekend
Father's Day weekend a friend that I used to work with in Arkansas came up to visit and to attend the annual Beer Festival put on by Boulevard. The festival on Saturday was wonderful. They had great music, food, and of course plenty of good beer to sample. We could not have asked for a better day.

On that Sunday (actual Father's Day) we spent the day relaxing around the house and soaking up some quality time with dad/ a.k.a Courtney. Two things that make Courtney happy are grilling and ice cream, so we did both! Gavin got to try sweet corn for the first time and seemed to really enjoy it. Then we headed over to Culver's to get some custard! We are so thankful for Courtney and all that he does for us! Gavin and I are truly blessed to call him ours!

Earlier in the week my friend Jennifer and I got together for a craft day were we helped the boys make their Father's Day gifts. Gavin and Isaac are so CUTE together I can hardly stand it!

Making Memories in May

Well, with spring flying by and summer fast approaching; we have been busy. I know it has been awhile since I have posted, so let me recap the last few weeks and our fun memories from May.

Celebrating a Birthday Girl: Brynlee Turns 1
A few weekends ago we headed back down south to Arkansas to celebrate my good friend Jessi's little girl turning one. As always it was great catching up with friends and watching our little ones all get together.

HopFest 2014 @ The Well
Courtney and I were invited to attend our first beer festival this year with our friends Jake and Rachel. My mom was so kind to come and visit/watch Gavin so we could go, and we had a BLAST!!!

My mom got into town Friday afternoon, so of course we squeezed in some lunch and shopping. Then later that night her and I got to go for drinks at my favorite little wine bar here in Olathe.

Saturday @ HopFest

I guess this is how they do it in KC for beer festivals....random guy wearing a pretzel necklace!

Meanwhile Gavin was having a great time with Gigi playing at the park, going for a wagon ride and eating snacks, and then playing "fort" in the playroom.

Day to Day: The Park and Deanna Rose
We spent much of our time in May either at the park or visiting the Deanna Rose petting zoo with friends. The petting zoo is great in May because it is not to hot and not to busy yet since kids are still in school. So, we tried to go at least once a week in May.

Easter Weekend

Well, we had a wonderful, relaxing, and blessed Easter spending time with family back in Iowa. We headed back on the Thursday before Easter and came back that following Monday, so it was a nice little trip "home". This was the first year Gavin got to experience hunting for Easter eggs and he really seemed to enjoy it.  He would shake very egg before putting it in his basket to make sure it had something in it.....they learn so quick! We just want to thank all of our parents for making this Easter very special and fun for Gavin. So, here is a quick recap of our Easter weekend.

Now, right before we left town we received a special delivery from Grandpa & Grandma D. They got Gavin an entire bucket full of Easter bunny cookies!! He loved them!! Here he is munching away on his Easter cookies!

We spent that Thursday night before Easter with Pat and Rose and stayed up late "of course" playing cards. Gavin enjoyed sitting at the kids table playing with all the Easter eggs and bunnies.

On Friday we headed over to George and Dixie's house. It was a blast coloring Easter eggs with all the other cousins...Gavin was not so into coloring eggs, but I enjoyed it!! ;) George and Dixie even did a special little Easter egg hunt just for Gavin.

Gavin taking his first "4-wheeler" ride with his cousin Braydn....he cried when we took him off!

Before leaving Sumner we did stop in to see Courtney's grandma. This would be Gavin's great-grandma Jean! I loved this moment between the two of them. I got the privilege of meeting many of my great grandparents and I can only hope that as Gavin gets older he will be able to experience more moments like these.

After visiting Courtney's family in Sumner we headed to Waterloo to spend Easter with my mom and Steve. Gavin woke-up Easter morning to a room full of gifts from the Easter bunny. After shaking every egg to make sure there was something inside he then wanted to open every egg! He definitely was a fan of all the chocolate candy.

Family picture before church.

At church with Courtney's family

After church we had a relaxing day playing outside. My grandma and grandpa Olson also came over to join us for an Easter Dinner.

Gavin playing with his new set of "golf clubs"

The morning we left town it was raining....and somebody wanted to splash around in the rain!

Wonderscope

Gavin and I joined my cousin Traci and her crazy bunch one afternoon to Wonderscope. It is an old school that they have turned into a learning museum for kids. Each room has a different theme and hands on activities for the kids to participate in. We had an amazing time and are SOOO looking forward to going again soon!

Gavin and Stephen playing in the "Farm Room". They had everything from how to milk a cow to growing vegetables.

Here is Gavin taking care of a little sick dog in the "Veterinarian Room". He was so determined to get the dog's temperature. LOL

Gavin and Abigail learning about x-rays

One of his favorite rooms was the "Submarine Room" which was made out of legos.
